My gut feeling is that the instructions on that link were for older versions and that there is some sort of incompatibility issue between the latest versions of OpenOffice and JRE. It worked fine until I updated to OpenOffice 4.1.1. The advice to avoid using wizards is good advice for the future, but the database I am trying to access was already created using the wizard.
